Dominic: The Go Run Persistence™ is a new model and my first running shoe from Skechers, but I’m no stranger to the brand. The one I received is blue and the shoe style is minimal. There’s nothing catchy about it, but its simplicity is sophisticated. Very lightweight for a neutral, everyday training shoe, 8.45oz/240g in my size 9. The Persistence™ is very comfortable, but my normal size 9 has a fairly loose fit.

Halfway through my first wear, I ended up using the lace lock to get a more secure fit. This made a big difference in the hold, especially in the heel area. You also have to tie the shoelaces pretty tightly to keep your feet securely in place.

This means that the upper has a little more volume in terms of design. On humid days, moisture in the air can seep in and accumulate, but the upper has numerous ventilation holes, giving it a high rating in terms of breathability.
The molded heel counter, an “extra feature” on the Persistence™, works well when using rock lacing techniques, but otherwise doesn’t hold the heel securely in place.
The lacing system works very smoothly and also makes it easy to use lock lacing techniques as the laces can easily pass through the eyelets. Still, if the laces are always in “lock mode”, re-entry can be a bit of a pain as you have to pull each lace to put the shoe on on your next run.

Sam: Dominic is describing the upper well. Comfortable, fairly wide and forgiving in the toe area (and holds well), but lacks rear hold without the lace lock.
I was sent my usual size. It’s very rare to need a race lock in TTS, but here we definitely do it, even before the first run. However, once I put them on, the hold improved dramatically, and it got even better when I wore thicker socks. They’re good enough for daily moderate-paced training, but unfortunately they’re still a bit lacking for faster paces, as the rear collar is soft and not as supportive as I’d like.
The mesh is soft, the tongue is soft if not plush, and there isn’t much midfoot structure through the logo that you’re used to. There is no gusset tongue. There’s overlays in all the right places from the laces to the rear, but it’s only effective on the lace lock, and the heel held in reasonably well.
As mentioned above, it’s very rare to need true-to-size lace locks, but here they clearly were. Contributing to the need to do so is a relatively wide heel opening and soft collar padding, not too plush or too thick, but very comfortable, in fact too comfortable to be effective. .

Steve: I spent most of my training miles last year on his Hyper Razor 3, Razor Excess, and Razor Excess 2, so I might be an unofficial RTR Skechers Pro. The closest comparison is Excess 2, which also includes ArchFit® and Carbon H-Plate. Go Run Persistence™ has a Cadillac-like step-in feel and fit. There’s plenty of room and ArchFit® gently cradles your foot for maximum comfort. The shoes instantly feel like “home”. The upper isn’t overly padded or thick, but is actually quite breathable.
The tongue is nicely padded and not too bulky. I’m a big fan of the elastic laces that Skechers offers on most of their models, including his Persistence™. It has a firm hold and I don’t think there is any need to double knot it. Sam and Dominic explained that you need to use the lacelock technique to ensure the heel locks in, but that didn’t apply to me.
I had to tighten the laces quite a bit, but the heels didn’t slip and felt like they held my feet firmly in place. I was sent my usual size and it fit perfectly. I also received the same all black pair as Sam, but I don’t mind the simple look. I love bright colors, but it’s nice to have some neutrals in my rotation. “Back in black,” his ACDC fans shout.

The upper has a looser fit than other Skechers (either the Razor series or the Ride 10), but the laces have enough elasticity to tighten if needed. Regarding size, we recommend taking actual size. Alex: First time at Skechers! I had heard good things about this brand and was curious about the use of carbon in the forefoot of their everyday trainers. So let’s go! Like Dominic, I bought the blue color and immediately fell in love with the look. They aren’t flashy, but they look smart and can be worn every day. Stepping in, I immediately noticed the arch support. I was a little concerned because the aggressive arch support sometimes causes blisters, but so far I haven’t had any such issues with the Persistence. Despite their relatively modest appearance, these shoes have surprisingly good cushioning that made me want to wear them outside. I tested the women’s 6.5 and it was the perfect size for me. It seemed long at first, but it didn’t feel long on my legs. The forefoot is not too narrow and the upper holds your foot firmly. In fact, we were surprised at how secure the upper was considering there were no overlays or other parts to add structure. But in heels, I was a little more into lockdown. The heel cup feels wide, but I haven’t yet found the perfect laces to keep my heel in place without being too tight in the forefoot or midfoot. Fortunately, for long distance or easy runs, this doesn’t get in the way at all. If you race or do a lot of speed work, you need a little more lockdown.
