Revamping Entryway Spaces

Revamping Entryway Spaces – One of the design challenges I faced when moving into our new home was a difficult entryway. It’s a soft wall between the hallway and Skyler’s office, so you can’t have a large piece of furniture like a console. We also keep our keys in a bowl in the entry way so we always know where they are, but we needed something high enough for Jett to reach. We had furniture that was long and dense enough, but the problem was that Mr. Jones we both hated. I came up with a few ideas for this space, but in the end I decided to remodel a piece we already had to save money. In today’s post I’m sharing how I fixed up this space with very little money and some ideas I had for the wrong entryway!

The furniture we had came from Homegoods years ago when Mr. Jones and I started living together in Louisville Kentucky. We lived in this precious little 800 sq ft home and I had a lot to decorate our first place. At the time, we kept this in the kitchen and it was full of coozies (before YETI existed- lol), flasks, and weekend 20 somethings- ha!

Revamping Entryway Spaces

While it’s a nice entry piece, I think we were just sick of looking at it and the distressed finish just didn’t fit with our current decor. I thought for sure that I wanted to get rid of it completely. That is until I accidentally bought several cans of spray paint on Amazon and couldn’t return them. I figured since I bought them, I might as well see what this piece looks like painted black! What I didn’t see was that I LOVE YOU!!! We also had an extra hex handle from cb2 that matches our cabinet pull and fits the pre-existing holes perfectly!

Small Entryway Ideas

To complete the space, I wanted abstract paintings or a beautiful mirror. I really like this gold oval mirror with shelf, but I thought it might be too busy. If you have a small entryway and need something for your keys, this mirror would be PERFECT! You can decorate it with a beautiful vase with small feet for your keys and a tall flower vase.

Another option I loved was this walnut bookcase with 2 drawers. It sticks to the wall and you can fill it with beautiful decor and functional pieces like a key bowl! It’s a bit pricey, but I also found this budget-friendly option that also comes in a few colors/finishes.

The next 2 pieces are the same size as the table we have. They are perfect for any small space and I love that a marble bar cart can double as a small entryway table! Very nice too.

I hope one of these solutions will work for your small entryway! Be sure to check out my latest Amazon home finds and follow along on Instagram stories to see for yourself! Have a great weekend, friends! Let’s face it: the entryway is the first—and last—place everyone sees in your home. It’s the perfect place to make a statement, and requires a careful balance of form and function. Outside of your usable square footage, there are great options for styling and accessories in small entryways. Here, we highlight 5 small forward entryway ideas for contractors.

For a 1,800-square-foot apartment on Manhattan’s Upper West Side, the couple hired architect Jessica Wetters to help reimagine the space. The kitchen was completely renovated, the master bedroom, the living room and the bathroom, and the entrance. Moving in was a relatively easy task, as they ate the entire house, but it brought great benefits: a great first impression, an enlarged space to fit a comfortable bench, and a floating shelf for essentials.

When Laura and Randy put an offer on their Upper East Side co-op, they envisioned a new, more functional building. The key to this plan was the small entrance gate. “We knew we wanted to expand the entry way as it was incredibly small with two rooms on either side of the front door,” said Laura. “We decided to keep the main entrance and remove the smaller one, to create a space that was beautiful but also functional.” The couple completed the statement with a dramatic, geometric patterned wallpaper.

Jessica and Alex had been renting for six years before buying an 800-square-foot co-op in the Chelsea section of Manhattan. Although they were happy to finally have a home, they knew the apartment would need work before it felt like home. They remodeled the galley kitchen and bathroom and remodeled a few wardrobes. They also paid attention to the entrance, with the background image carefully chosen to make a visual statement. “Subtle raffia gives the walls texture and depth,” says Jessica. “We chose materials that will stand the test of time from the point of view of beauty and durability.”

For media manager Jenifer Herrmann and her partner Mitzie Wong (founder of design firm Roar + Rabbit), wallpaper was the perfect way to make a statement in their newly renovated entryway. They added Rhye wallpaper in hand foil and completed the look with a round mirror from Serena & Lily and a console from West Elm— elements that fit their nature theme.

Tina, a designer, and her husband Andrew wish they had an entryway for shoes and coats. When they planned to completely renovate their 1930s co-op in Sunnyside, New York, they had to deal with severe space constraints in the entryway. Since they cannot expand the space, they use their ideas to expand the space, combining form and function. They added a small bench, as well as hooks for bags and coats, all on a shiplap background. “We love the clean lines and texture of the shiplap details,” says Tina.

For Erin and Chris, their three-bedroom, two-bath co-op in the post-war, 1950s building also lacked an entryway. To fix it, they installed a bench with storage bins below and above. To finish they added wire baskets, a floating shelf, and a mirror with a metal frame on the adjacent wall.

After renting for many years, John wanted to start building equity. He bought a 1,200-square-foot apartment on Park Avenue in New York City, with a beautiful view of the skyline. She called on architect Aurora Farewell to help develop the layout and add a professional touch, making the space feel cohesive and thoughtfully designed. To enter, he wanted a sense of drama. He and the architect chose a large round mirror to cover most of the wall, in addition to a small, multi-functional wooden bench.

Chris and Jeremy hoped to fix it in the distant future. Then, the water damage from the leaky apartment above needed immediate attention, prompting them to go beyond repairs and jump into bigger repairs. Besides the bathroom, they remodeled their kitchen and living areas.

They also know that the field presents an exciting opportunity. It was big enough to feel like wasted space when left empty, but too small for any obvious use. Their general contractor helped them find a thoughtful solution. “We decided on a full-length bookcase that’s only 8 inches tall. It carries loads more than we expected,” said Jeremy. “On the other hand, our general contractor installed custom cabinets to serve as a bar.” Art lamps hang over tall mirrors, giving it the feel of a vintage gallery.

To create an entryway in a small space, explore moving or removing walls to expand the space. If you can’t change the walls, you can use wallpaper to create visual depth, use benches, hooks, storage bins to clear clutter, or add a statement piece—like a mirror—to visually separate an area from the rest of the house.

Entryway Key Throw Table

An easy way to organize a small entryway is to use decluttering items, such as benches, coat hooks, storage bins, and shoe and umbrella stands to keep the space neat and tidy. Using patterned wallpaper or shiplap panels will add visual appeal and personalize your home’s entryway.

We’ll match you with vetted general contractors and provide support until your project is complete – at no cost to you!
