Revamping Entryway Spaces

Revamping Entryway Spaces – One of the design challenges I faced when moving into our new home was a difficult entryway. It’s a soft wall between the hallway and Skyler’s office, so you can’t have a large piece of furniture like a console. We also keep our keys in a bowl in the entry way so we always know where they are, but we needed something high enough for Jett to reach. We had furniture that was long and dense enough, but the problem was that Mr. Jones we both hated. I came up with a few ideas for this space, but in the end I decided to remodel a piece we already had to save money. In today’s post I’m sharing how I fixed up this space with very little money and some ideas I had for the wrong entryway!

The furniture we had came from Homegoods years ago … Read the rest

Crafting Relaxing Meditation Spaces

Crafting Relaxing Meditation Spaces – Our new home My husband and I have been working on together for the past two years. With only two bedrooms and limited space in our small house, the second bedroom was the obvious choice for my rest room. Thankfully, the place feels nice and is not a high traffic area so it doesn’t disturb my relaxing time.

Your rest room, however, can be anywhere in the house you feel most comfortable. My resting place is a spare bedroom converted into my home office. My friend’s room has her resting place. Your space can be big or small. The only requirement is that it is not a highly trafficked and relaxed place.

Implementing Rainwater Harvesting Systems

Implementing Rainwater Harvesting Systems – Although rainwater harvesting can bring many benefits to consumers and the water industry as a whole (read our previous blog here), it is not always clear how to effectively promote and increase the uptake of this practice.

RWH systems can be established relatively easily with local skills and resources, using simple and easy-to-maintain technologies that are inexpensive to install. RWH systems can be modular, allowing for expansion, reconfiguration or relocation, and can be easily retrofitted to an existing structure or built in during new construction.  However, despite the many benefits, it is often difficult for households to implement rainwater harvesting.  The initial installation cost of RWH systems in residential housing is relatively high and is a common barrier to implementation.

Things To Consider When Renovating A Bathroom

Things To Consider When Renovating A Bathroom – Make no mistake: remodeling your bathroom will cost you time, money, and maybe even a few gray hairs. The cost can range from “a few thousand dollars to remodel an existing bathroom to six figures for a high-end master bathroom renovation,” says HomeAdvisor’s Dan DiClerico. But if you’re a smart spender, the investment will probably pay off.

The trick is to choose upgrades that go with your lifestyle and routines – maybe you need a bathtub because you’ll literally be stepping into it every day; wall niche if there is no place to store shampoo; two sinks because brushing your teeth shouldn’t be a fight with your elbows. “We ask a lot of questions about daily routine and storage needs, and emphasize function first,” explains Britt Zunino of Studio DB. Happiness is the ultimate goal: According to the National Association of Realtors’ … Read the rest
